2 Ways To Set Up An Online Memorial

Posted on

If a loved one has recently passed away, in addition to the traditional funeral services, you may also want to consider setting up an online memorial as well. As our lives are increasingly online, many individuals like to mourn those who pass online as well as in person.

Use Existing Social Media Accounts

If your loved one has recently passed away, you may be able to use their existing social media accounts as an online memorial.

If you have access to your loved one's passwords, this is an easier process. If you have access to their account, you can log into their account and inform their friends whom they communicated with on that account about the passing of your loved ones. You can also invite your loved one's friends to leave comments and memories on their page.

If your loved one passed away, and you do not have access to their password, you will have to directly contact the site where your loved one has a social media account. You may need to have their death certificate in order to prove that the person is in fact deceased in order to gain access to their account. Once you gain access to the account, you can let all their friends and family know they can post memories on their account.

Sign Up With A Memorial Website

If you don't want to use your loved one's social media accounts as a memorial site, you can sign up for an account with a memorial website.

Memorial websites are a little different than using a social media website as a memorial. When you create an account, your account is active forever. With a social media website, changes in policy could affect your access to the online memorial you set-up.

You can also customize the site to your liking. If you want the online memorial to be accessible only by select individuals, you can set it up like that. However, if you want a wide range of individuals to be able to access the online memorial, you can make it open. Making an open memorial can be advantageous because there may be individuals whom you don't even think about or whom you don't personally know who would like to share their memories about your loved one.

If a loved one recently passed away, consider setting up an online memorial for them. This is a great way to allow a socially connected world to grieve the passing of your loved one and share memories about them. You can set up a memorial through your loved one's existing social media accounts, or you can set up a special online memorial for them.
